The Northside's independent weekly newspaper
The Bayside & Northern Suburbs Star presents news, features and advertising for Brisbane's north east suburbs every Wednesday to households and businesses in the following suburbs: Aspley, Bald Hills, Boondall, Bracken Ridge, Brighton, Carseldine, Deagon, Fitzgibbon, Geebung (part), Sandgate, Shorncliffe, Taigum, Virginia (part), Zillmere.
The newspaper is plastic sleeved every week and delivery is completed by sundown Wednesday.
The Star is a Brisbane owned and based independent newspaper which has no connection with any media group in Australia or overseas. It is currently the largest privately owned general newspaper in the Greater Brisbane area and one of only a handful of independents remaining in south-east Queensland.
The first edition of the newspaper appeared on November 18, 1987 and it has been published continuously each Wednesday since (with the exception of an annual two week break over Christmas).
The Star is professionally delivered to all residences in 14 suburbs of Brisbane's north east with bulk deliveries to businesses within its boundaries and some surrounding areas.
Editorial content primarily consists of local news relevant to the distribution area of the paper, augmented with regular features like Health, Beauty & Fitness, Travel & Leisure, Home Improvements and Motoring Scene, Real Estate, Boating & Fishing.
The Star has been a dominant force in Brisbane North's local media thanks to its high ethical standards in reporting, its level of community involvement and, of course, great value advertising in both display and classifieds coupled with attentive and friendly service.
Why advertise with us?
READERSHIP: A readership survey conducted by the University of Southern Qld with a sample size of 400 respondents attributed The Star with 63,000+ weekly readers or 81% of the population. The 400 respondents to the survey were disaggregated by suburb to obtain a true indication of acceptance across our distribution footprint. This survey was conducted in 1999 when our circulation was 29,500. Since then our distribution area has not altered and due to organic population growth our circulation is now 37,200. With this in mind it is fair to assume that our current weekly readership is substantially more than 63,000.
DISTRIBUTION: The Star’s distribution is carried out by a local distribution company. They strive to deliver our 37,200 copies by 5pm Wednesday. Since July 2008 they have achieved an average weekly success percentage of 99.1% by 5pm. The balance is delivered early Thursday. The Star is plastic sleeved every week regardless of the weather and is delivered in isolation. No catalogues, flyers or inserts are delivered with The Star. We are members of the Circulations Audit Board which independently audits our printing and distribution quantities every six months.
SERVICE: We offer free professional advertising layout and design service regardless of the size or frequency of your campaign. Free colour is included for all display advertising clients in our rate scale. This does not preclude the use of mono advertisements for effect. Proofs of all ads are available prior to publication. We offer the most affordable rates of any print media within our circulation area which appeal to all levels of advertisers. The classified and trade directory section of The Star is around 10 pages per week and can be accessed by phoning any one of our six consultants on (07) 3269 0233. Again free layout and design service, and proofs before publication are offered. Our normal trading terms are 30 days and the industry standard for advertising agencies.
QUALITY: The Star is printed on 52gsm newsprint which is much whiter than standard newsprint quality of 48gsm. This results in a clearer and cleaner product with high resolution photographs, graphics and type. This enables good use of colour and white space within your advertising borders. Printing is carried out on the most modern, state of the art printing press at APN Print at Yandina.
FORMAT: The Star is tabloid format with a full page image area of 38cm x 26cm. Four and seven column and modular sized adverts are acceptable in news and feature pages, however Classified and Trade Services pages are four columns wide featuring single column advertisements only.
